Burial will be at 3:00 PM April 26th, 2024 at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Killeen, Texas.

He was born to Norman and Audrey Scarr on April 7,1948 at Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia, where they lived until his parents left active duty and moved the family to Minnesota. He had three younger brothers: Richard (Rick), James (Jim), and William (Bill).

Greg entered service in the US Navy on June 7, 1967, after graduating from Moorhead High School in 1966. While stationed in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), he met Jean Lambert, a beautiful redhead from Seattle, Washington. They married on December 20, 1969, in Moorhead, MN and had three children: Kimberley, Arthur, and Adam.

After leaving the service as a Yeoman Petty Officer 2nd Class, Greg moved his family to Seattle and started working for various federal government agencies before ending his professional career at Housing and Urban Development. During his professional civilian life, Greg earned an Associate Degree in Accounting, a real estate license, a private pilots license, and he sold insurance for a short time.

In 2006, after retiring as the Multi-Family Housing Supervisor in Seattle for HUD, and receiving a diagnosis of congestive heart failure, Greg and Jean moved to Temple, TX where Greg received a pacemaker and regained strength for a marvelous new season of life. Every morning, Greg and Jean would read the Bible together and set their eyes on Jesus as they prepared for the day ahead. They enjoyed a slower pace, taking road trip adventures throughout Texas and plugging into the Burtchell Bunch at Temple Bible Church.

During the last two years of his life, physical struggles brought new challenges to Greg and Jean. Through it all, Greg's indomitable spirit kept him focused on the Lord as he loved his beautiful wife, his family, and everyone around him. Regardless of the amount of pain he was in, he shared the love of Jesus with everyone he met. While we are saddened to lose his presence in our lives, we know Greg is whole and healed in the presence of Jesus.

He was born to Angela Blackwell and David Scott Whitaker on July 7, 1993, in Lubbock, Texas. Colby graduated from CanyonHigh School in 2011. He studied physical therapy in college and wanted to pursue a career in physical therapy or dentistry. He also loved writing screenplays and would have loved becoming a film producer. Colby was the kindest and most gentle soul. He would do anything for anyone, and he never asked for anything in return. He had a heart of gold. His days here with us were not long enough. There isn’t a person who didn’t meet him and instantly know what a genuine person he was. He didn’t like to talk about himself or his accomplishments. He extended a kind ear and quietly listened. He always had kind words to say and a friendly hello. His smile will be missed. Colby loved animals. He always said his favorite dog was Murphy, a 180-pound Irish Wolfhound. Murphy would load up in his truck to wait for Colby to take him on a ride. Funny thing, Murphy was too big to shut the door on Colby’s truck, so Colby would have to take him for a walk. He enjoyed taking care of him. He loved animals so much he wouldn’t even kill bugs in the house. If someone mentioned seeing a bug around the house, he always said, “oh I saw that one already” and that he already took that one outside. That’s how the nickname “Ebug” came about, and he loved this nickname. Colby loved to drink Dr Pepper. He knew every place in town and who had the best Dr Pepper. We only ate at places that had a “proper”Dr. Pepper. The drive through attendants knew him by name and always asked him where he had been if he missed a day of coming through. Colby had a dry sense of humor. His sister, Sydney, was pregnant with his niece, Harper. Instead of asking Colby if he wanted a niece or a nephew, his little sister Madison would ask him if he wanted to be an aunt or an uncle and he would smile and laugh and say “aunt”. Growing up, Colby was an avid chess player, skate boarder, and played all kinds of sports; Wrestling, soccer, and football. He also enjoyed fishing and camping and was never afraid to try new things. Colby loved to travel, especially with his sisters. They traveled the world together. He loved their adventures and spending time with his family. New York was his favorite place to live and visit. There, he was the best chaperone, personal photographer, and roommate to his little sister, Madison. He loved dressing up in hand made suits, Italian leather shoes, going out to fine dining and visiting the museums and strolling through Central Park. Colby loved his Toyota Tundra Truck. The truck was gifted to him by his step father, Mark, for all of Colby’s help. Colby cherished this truck and it was his most valuable possession. He loved Mark and the time they spent together. Colby was a great brother and friend to his brother, Matthew. They were roommates in Austin and Colby always made sure Matthew had a good meal to come home to after classes. They moved back to Cameron together where they spent many happy days golfing and gardening. Colby loved the time he spent with the Whitaker Family. He traveled all over the states with his Uncle Tim and cousin Garrett. Colby talked about where they went and what they did. He loved to help Uncle Tim and Aunt Michelle prepare the Wedding venue. He learned many great skills and always referred to those days with fondness. Colby lived with his sister Jory, and he enjoyed going on car rides around town with her, watching movies on their projector, and taking on new projects together. He was always very helpful to her.
His later life, he enjoyed the simple things, watching Twitch and Tik (TikTok) as he called it, and good
movies. He liked running errands with his mother and her golden doodle, Romeo, and going out to lunch. He
might not have always liked her cooking, but he would still drive over for a plate of dinner and dessert and drop off his laundry. He was always happy to pup sit Romeo. They will miss his company dearly. He was such a fun and caring person and leaves behind a family who will forever miss him. There are no words to describe the loss or pain we feel from his absence. He is survived by his mother Angela and step father, Bob. Siblings Jory, Sydney, Matthew and Madison, and Mackenzie. His maternal grandparents, Sharon and Stan, and paternal grandparents Patsy and Don. Great Aunt Carolyn and Great Uncle Bob. Aunt and Uncle Michelle and Tim. Niece Harper, and cousins Garrett and Chance. He leaves behind step siblings Brady, Carson, and Lauren and other close relatives.
